I have always had a keen interest in art. As a teenager, I was always drawing. In fact I spent most of my youth with a sketchbook in hand. In my late teens, I also developed a passion for photography and spent many hours honing my skills. So, in addition to endless sketching, I spent many evenings processing film and prints in my makeshift darkroom.
Though the demands of motherhood forced me to take a break from my art, I always knew that I would, one day, find my way back to my calling. Now that my daughter and son are adults with their own aspirations, I've returned to devoting a significant portion of my days fine-tuning my skills and pursuing my passion and great love... Art.
At some point in the day I can be found in my home studio working on my paintings. My exotic colour palette and subjects are strongly influenced by my Bahamian heritage where there is constant sunshine and the bright blue ocean is never far away. The miles of forests and the wilderness of my former home in Fort McMurray have also had a strong influence on the direction of my work. My drive to produce new pieces of art is so strong that I feel wretched if I don't get to spend a part of each day creating.
I use many different kinds of media, such as acrylic paint, watercolour paint, alcohol inks and markers. I believe that working in a single medium is restrictive to my artistic process. Each idea manifests in its own individual style.
I enjoy life and the experiences each day brings. Many of my pieces are directly influenced by these life experiences and the feelings that come along with them. I love recreating a moment, a feeling, a thought, through my art.
